But few seem to mind.
It’s not that conducting open deliberations in government isn’t important. It’s critical to assure public scrutiny before taxes are raised and billions are spent, before people’s rights are reduced, before the voiceless are ignored, to limit lobbyists’ influence and stop the bad guys in New York’s notorious power politics before they act. Bedrock principles include public hearings and a law that requires public release of a bill for three days before it can be voted on.
